Islamic heritage in Uzbekistan



Central Asian cities like Bukhara, Samarkand, Marv, Balkh and Khiva had existed long before Islam. The ancient names of local states and provinces: Sogdiana, Bactria and Khawarezm were well known before and during Alexander the Great’s invasion. After Islam this land became even more significant in Islamic and world civilization. In Muslim world the area is also known as Khorasan خراسان which included Mawarannahrما وراء النهر and Khawarezm خوارزم this region produced dozens or hundreds of great scholars and scientists. Almost every muslim at least heard such names Avicenna (Ibn Sina), Imam Al Bukhari, Al Khawarezmi, Al Biruni, At-Termizi, Imam Al Matrudi.
